Replacing Broken Brackets and Turret Rotation

Image
Some more progress and steps back. I reworked the power system to all work off the main batter so no more AA batteries to run the radar motors. But this increased the RPMs - 3v to 5V and my radar setup didn't like this. So I had to spend time making it more robust. Then when I went to do the turret rotation I realized all the added weight to the turret made the rotation very difficult, even by hand and also not smooth. So I made a friction ring that lets the turret be supported in all places and smoothly spin. But then when I mounted the rotation motor and it was all working I couldn't close the tank. The motor is too big when paired with the HL power pack. Ugghh! I thought I had room but with all the tweaking I'd made the turret gear large diameter pushing back the motor.  Now I'm waiting for some other motors to see if I can get one to work. I'm sure that some combo with get things working, but the delays are frustrating. On the good side, this setup is more robu

Doing some more work on the Equalizer project. Getting the radars to move. I have the front one oscillating which was pretty exciting. I'm hoping that was the hardest one to work out. The back one just spins, then there is the elevation for the weapons and the turret rotation. I'm also toying with the idea of flashing LEDs at the ends of the cannons, but haven't decided yet.  Here's a video of it tearing up my yard and almost getting stomped by one of my kids.  https://youtu.be/LE-cczNPboI

Weekend Research

Busy weekend so not much fabrication. Some tinkering with the cool motors I got from Joe Mauler Works. They’re super small. I’m trying to work them into designs for the Flak Mauler. Had to fix my son’s sink and that got me thinking of a firefighting Joe vehicle. Ladder and water pump sprayer. Maybe Barbecue as driver 😁 Best books. I had to get this, right?    Cool pic! Flak and engineering tank in one image. Terrible little sketches of how ill power the radars. Little water pump repair. Could be fun on a vehicle.
